April, 2010: Oregon Cranberry farmers tell their story...

The Pantry Patriot

                                      Naturally Naked Cranberries

By Chelle Winters-Webb

Our two daughters aged 7 and 9-years-old, eat cranberries straight out of the bog.  We also have berries, bog fresh, frozen in the freezer and they will take a bowl of frozen cranberries and eat them raw for a snack, treat, or dessert.

We have been growing cranberries since 1996 but we want to step out and create our own avenue in the form of a company to sell our berries directly to the public; a product that I am passionate about and proud to offer.  The Patriotic Cranberry!

We will start accepting preorders now, for the October Harvest coming this season, 2010.

We are offering Naked Cranberries.

There is a market for naturally sweet cranberries that is not being met on a national scale. We aim to fill that niche by offering for sale, our superior cranberries.

We will be able to offer:

Cranberries "Bog Fresh" and ship them frozen.

Dried Cranberries "Naturally Naked" shipped.

Consumers who want less sugar in their foods and those who want to lead a healthier and more natural lifestyle may purchase our berries to add to their diet for their naturally sweet wholesome goodness.

Many Americans are unaware that cranberries grown on the west Coast are naturally sweeter than those grown on the east Coast; this is due to our longer growing season, which is all the more reason for buying our delicious cranberries!

Our berries are grown on the Ocean Cliff side town of Bandon By-The-Sea, Oregon.

Cranberries are one of only three berries that were found in the New World. The cranberry, Concord grape and the blueberry were American originals.

Native Indians valued cranberries for their medicinal purposes. The colonists learned from the Indians how amazing cranberries were, and made the berries an important part of their own lives. In fact, there was a law that anyone picking cranberries before harvest time was to be punished by a fine.

Our colonists also carried barrels of dried cranberries on their sailing ships to prevent scurvy amongst the sailors. Cranberries are a healthy natural product.

The cranberry is also unique, in that it has such a distinct and delightful flavor on the palate. Food combinations with cranberries take your senses on a unique and flavorful journey you'll not soon forget.
